Sawing Recyled Tressel Wood and Telephone Poles
Sawing Telephone Poles
Get ready to go through lots of blades. I just finished a job where we were hired to saw over 50 telephone poles. You can create a lot of usable lumber if you can get the poles at the right price.
Here are some warnings.
Make sure you have alot of extra blades.
Newer Poles have been treated so take breathing and dust precautions.
Stay away from creosote treated poles.
The best poles I have found are old redwood or cedar poles.
We had about 40 redwood square poles that came out of the desert in Colorado and they sawed up great and made really nice wood.
Cedar poles usually have been treated with fumigation tubes but saw up nicely as well.
Sawing Telephone Poles Warning
Because of these treatments only use the lumber obtained for exterior uses.
We spent a lot of time going over the boards for nails and other foreign objects and had pretty good success but still went through alot of blades. I bought a metal detector wand from Harbor freight for $35.00 and it worked nicely to find most of the nails.
